A seminar titled “What We Learned from the Kahramanmaraş Earthquake: Right Place, Right Building, Right Supervision” was held on Monday, April 10, 2023, in cooperation with the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Kültür University and the Department of Civil Engineering. Having participated in the event as a speaker, one of our Department of Civil Engineering academicians, Assist. Prof. Erdal Coşkun conveyed his findings about faulty construction in the earthquake region, especially in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay, to students and academics.
With the amendment made to the disciplinary procedures of the students, an information meeting was held regarding the changes made in the disciplinary procedures of the students with the participation of our deans, directors, department and program representatives and especially our Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, between 11:00 and 12:00, at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall. In the concert organized by the Fine Arts Application and Research Centre (GSUAM) on Thursday, 13 April at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Centre, Borusan Quartet, which has a wide selection from the classical period to the modern period and attracts attention with its national and international tours, was the guest of our university. The repertoire, which included the works of Turkish composers and romantic masters of music, gave classical music lovers pleasant moments.
The Design Factory, which is the first İSTKA project to be carried out by Istanbul Kültür University within the framework of the Creative Industries Financial Support Program of the Istanbul Development Agency in 2021, accomplished another big win. The "Talent Istanbul Applied Software Training Center" project, prepared by the Design Factory project team in cooperation with NTT Data Business Solutions Türkiye, was granted the chance of monetary aid by the Istanbul Development Agency under the "Talent Istanbul Employment Guaranteed Financial Support Program".
An agreement was signed between Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) and Tohum Autism Foundation on Wednesday, April 12. With the signing of this cooperation agreement, cooperation between IKU Faculty of Education, the Department of Special Education and Tohum Autism Foundation will be established.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe and our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız paid a visit to the İKÜ Asimov Technology Club, who successfully represented our university in the Robotaxi Competition held as a part of TEKNOFEST, on Wednesday, April 12, in Bilişim Valley.
Assist. Prof. Edip Seçkin and Assist. Prof. Erdal Coşkun from Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering Earthquake Damage Assessment and Evaluation Team, paid a visit the earthquake-effected region between 8-12 March 2023 with the IKU Rectorate entrusted mission of analysing and evaluating the aftermath of the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and affected 11 provinces.
The ABIS ROV team, which was established in 2021 within the IEEE IKU, qualified for the final in the 2023 TEKNOFEST "Unmanned Underwater Systems" competition. Our team, which has been working for two years, passed all the qualifications and will participate in the competition to be held in April 2023. The team, which includes eight engineers, developed the ABIS to complete the assigned tasks fully autonomously and made it ready for the competition. We congratulate our team and wish them continued success.
IKU Red Wings, one of the IEEE IKU Club TEKNOFEST teams, completed the Critical Design Report stage, which is the last stage of the "2023 Fighting UAV Competition", in the first place. Our team, which broke the record with 97.50 points out of 100, will be in a fierce competition to raise the name of our university to the highest level in the races to be held at Bursa Yunuseli Airport between April 15-19.
